Drew Peterson Convicted of Murdering Third Wife, Kathleen Savio

Drew Peterson was convicted of murdering his third wife, Kathleen Savio, back in 2004. Outside of the courthouse in Joliet, Will County State Attorney James Glasgow said, “We are going to aggressively review that case with an eye towards potentially charging it.” Glasgow was referencing the death of Peterson’s fourth wife, Stacy Peterson.

Stacy Peterson disappeared in 2007 and that is what led Drew to be charged in Savio’s death. Stacy has been presumed dead but her body has never been discovered. Drew has been considered a suspect in the case but has yet to be formally charged.

“Finally, finally, finally,” Mitch Doman, Savio’s brother-in-law, said, according to Fox News. “We finally got that murdering bastard!”

Glasgow told reporters and witnesses outside the courtroom that “He was a thug. He would threaten people because he had a gun and a badge. Nobody would take him on, but we took him on and he lost.”

The sentencing hearing is scheduled for November 26 and Glasgow is going to ask the judge for the maximum of 60 years. He also said that the case being built against Peterson in Stacy’s death is becoming stronger each day.

“The longer any person is gone, the easier it is to prove that they haven’t just simply run away, that they are deceased,” he said. “Oct. 27, 2007, (when she disappeared) is way in our rearview mirror.”

The attorneys for Peterson have said that they will appeal the conviction because of hearsay evidence. Some of that evidence includes testimony from people who said Stacy believed her husband killed Savio.

“It’s a dark say in America when you can convict somebody on hearsay evidence,” Joe Lopez, an attorney for Peterson, said.

When Nick Savio, Kathleen Savio’s brother, read a statement outside the courtroom Thursday to the media and witnesses, he exclaimed, “Stacy, you are now next for justice.”
