Who will perform the roles of Eponine and Cosette in the upcoming film ‘Les Miserables’, an adaptation of the musical of the same name. Country star Taylor Swift will portray Eponine and actress Amanda Seyfried will bring the role of Cosette to the big screen.
If a rumor initially reported in the New York Post last November is to be believed, Swift’s casting in the role of Eponine is a huge step in her acting career and a major victory over the many other actresses she had to beat out in order to secure the role. These contenders included actresses such as Evan Rachel Wood, Scarlett Johansson, and Lea Michele. The parents of Eponine will be played with Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Thernardier and Sacha Baron Cohen as Mr. Thernardier. Other than music videos, Swift’s prior acting credentials include a guest role on CSI, a part in the movie “Valentine’s Day”, and voice work in the upcoming movie, “The Lorax.”
In addition to acting, Seyfried is a classically trained opera singer whose prior work includes the film musical, “Mamma Mia.” Anne Hathaway will be playing Fantine, the mother of Seyfried’s character. The remainder of the cast includes Hugh Jackman in the role of Jean Valjean and Russell Crowe who will be playing Inspector Javert.
Eddie Redmayne, who last fall starred with Michelle Williams in “My Week With Marilyn”, will continue his extraordinary good luck by starring with both Swift and Seyfried as he plays the role of Marius.

If Mr. and Mrs. Thenardier were played by Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen, respectively, then Mr. Thenardier would be played by Helena and Mrs. Thenardier would be played by Sacha.

Taylor Swift is amazingly talented, but is not the proper actress for Eponine. She is too sweet looking and sounding. I personally envision Eponine as a brunette who is a little more exotic with a sweet appeal like Naya Rivera (looks voice not sound).

What a joke. I can’t believe these were really the best choice of all the vocal talent they could have cast. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge Taylor Swift fan … just not in this capacity.

This is not okay. I’m sorry, but Taylor is country singer, and she doesn’t have a Broadway voice.

I thought that Swift was not going to be pursuing any more acting roles and was instead going to focus on her music career. She said that she only did Valentine’s Day for the fun of it. Swift has only dabbled in acting and hasn’t really shown an interest in actually making something of it.
However, it is clear that she does have the look of someone who can act. I hope that it works out. I feel like this is like a big opportunity for her. A very rare one. Most pop singers who dabble in acting usually are not successful. They also are not looked at seriously for feature film roles. Obviously Taylor Swift did a great audition. I wouldn’t have wanted Lea Michele. I like Evan Rachel Wood, but she tends to work well in more darker edgier films. Scarlett Johannson is extremely overrated, she is in like every movie possible. I think Taylor should do this film. I hope it works out.
