The unofficial motto of Larry Flynt’s Hustler Club is ‘no preggos in the champagne room.’ The club is at the heart of a new lawsuit from a former waitress who says she was fired because her baby bump began to show.
The woman who filed the suit, Josie Muriel, claims that she was demoted and then fired as soon as her pregnant stomach was noticeable. Muriel claims that she worked for a couple of years as a server not suffering any issues with higher-ups. As soon as Muriel’s pregnancy became noticeable her coworkers, according to the document ‘“became distant, secretive and often asked how long she planned to continue working.”
After her belly began to show, her schedule was cut to one day per week and then she was fired. The court document then said, “Hustler’s senior management informed Ms. Muriel that her ‘condition’ (i.e., pregnancy) made her a liability to the club.”
Muriel is asking for unspecified damages from the club for alleged sex and gender discrimination.
