Sacramento’s McDonough Holland & Allen Shutting Down Shop

Officials for McDonough Holland & Allen, the second-largest law firm in Sacramento and one of its most prestigious, announced Friday that the firm will be shutting down later this year.

According to a report in the Sacramento Business Journal, the announcement has “sent shockwaves through the Sacramento legal community. The firm, which has served the area for more than 55 years, could close as soon as Labor Day.

“During the last few months, it has become clear that, for a variety of reasons, some attorneys and attorney groups are interested in moving in different directions and the firm, as currently organized, will no longer be viable for the long-term,” chief executive officer Ed Quinn said in a news release.

“We acknowledge this reality is a deep loss for the entire McDonough family, as the firm has been a partner to our clients and an active member of the Sacramento business community for more than 50 years. During this transition process, McDonough Holland & Allen attorneys will continue to practice as usual, and we do not anticipate service will be affected. Our clients are our highest priority, now, as always,” Quinn said.

McDonough Holland has lost more than 20 lawyers since March, leaving it with around 80 attorneys presently. The Business Journal reports the firm is hoping to “salvage a core group going forward”, but the remainder are expected to land at other Sacramento firms.
