Zico is First Asian Firm in Australia

Zaid Ibrahim & Co (Zico) has received approval to practice law in Australia, becoming the first Asian law firm to do so. The fim will provide Finance and Syariah-compliant advisory services in Australia. Syariah law, also known as Sharia law, is a recognized legal system in Malaysia having jurisdiction over the country’s Islamic citizens. The firm says that there is a growing interest in Islamic law inside of Australia and an increasing interest in Australia in the world of Islamic finance. The company hopes to be able to connect investors and businesses from the Middle East with clients in Australia.

Zico is the largest law firm in Malaysia with 130 lawyers in country. In addition, the firm has offices in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Middle East.
