Summary: Thomas Jefferson has secured a new campus location not far from their former building in downtown San Diego.
Thomas Jefferson School of Law will be remaining in the heart of downtown San Diego, according to an announcement by Cushman & Wakefield, who represented the law school in the long-term lease. Thomas Jefferson will now be located in a 56,338 square feet space covering two floors at 701 B Street. The school implemented a “Move Forward†plan to reduce its costs while providing a high-quality education based on the core concepts “Rightsizing, Repositioning and Reallocating.
The law school is making a substantial downsize but will have its own entrance and private elevator. They currently operate out of an eight-story building in San Diego’s East Village five minutes away from their new location.
Tenant rep specialists Tom van Betten and Casey Sterck of Cushman & Wakefield helped negotiate the lease for Thomas Jefferson. EMMES owns the building. They were also represented by Cushman & Wakefield’s Phillip Roberts and Derek Hulse.
Thomas Jefferson states in a press release: “The new campus is an important investment in strategic planning for the Law School, streamlining the educational experience for students and faculty alike. 701 B Street in central to the heart of a thriving downtown and close to multiple transit options and housing. It is just blocks from the new Central Courthouse, California Court of Appeal, Federal Courthouses and many law firms. Reduced footprint and overhead will empower the Law School to reallocate funds to provide scholarship opportunities for students – including the Law School’s comprehensive and guaranteed scholarship awards, some of which include full tuition and housing grants. Additionally, the new campus’ Class-A building aligns with the Law School’s student-first vision and its commitment to providing an even more meaningful and engaged learning environment. Repositioning with smaller classes will afford students more one-on-one attention and support from faculty and administration, helping better prepare students for the practice of law firm from their first year through graduation.â€
