On-the-Run Man Found Dead after Confessing on Facebook to Killing Mother

Summary: Casey Lawhorn, 23, allegedly killed his mother while she was sleeping in her bed.

A Tennessee man accused of killing his wife confessed his killing on Facebook, and on Monday, police found him dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities stated that Casey Lawhorn murdered his mother and his best friend on Sunday, and then he went on the run. The 23-year-old then wrote a Facebook confession after ditching his car in Mississippi, and he said that he killed his mother when she was too drunk to realize she was about to die.

“This morning, at around 01:30, I shot and killed my mother (Vi Lawhorn) and a close friend of mine… with a stolen .22 LR,” Lawhorn wrote, according to ABC News.

Lawhorn allegedly committed the double murders in Eagle Ridge, Tennessee.

“She started screaming the worst scream I’ve ever heard. Movies really don’t do justice to how true terror sounds,” Lawhorn continued. “She shouted ‘You shot me! You’ve killed me! Why?’ Once I got the jam fixed, I turned on the light so I wouldn’t miss again. I shot at her twice more and it was over.”

Lawhorn added that his mother had been drinking a lot at a local bar and that she was too drunk to realize that her son was trying to murder her. He stated that his firearm had jammed during the shooting, but that he eventually got it to clear. He said that he believed he had only hit her in the arm at first before he fired again.

“I need to emphasize that I take full responsibility for my actions. Nothing anyone has or hasn’t done to me caused this, my decisions and my failures are my own,” Lawhorn wrote on Facebook.

The New York Daily News said that Lawhorn’s post had gone viral before it was deleted but screenshots were captured.

Lawhorn wrote the damning Facebook post while on the run. After he killed his mother and a friend, he called 911 and fled his home, leading authorities on a multistate manhunt.

Lawhorn seemed indifferent about his mother in his confession, but he asked his friends to take care of his younger brother.

“No one will be hurt by this more than my brother,” Lawhorn wrote. “If you want to help him in this insanely difficult time I’m putting him through, actually do something, don’t just think about it. I’m sorry to him more than anyone.”
