Summary: Morgan Spurlock is being sued for allegedly ruining an upcoming TNT TV show about female empowerment.

Last year, Harvey Weinstein was outed by the New York Times for allegedly sexually harassing and abusing dozens of women in the entertainment industry for three decades. That expose sparked the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements to gain national attention, and many prominent men were fired or resigned after victims came out with their stories of sexual misconduct.

Not wanting to wait for accusations to surface, “Super Size Me” filmmaker Morgan Spurlock admitted last year that he had a history of sexual misconduct. This put a wrench in his career, and this week, Turner Entertainment Network sued him for ruining a show they had produced together about female empowerment.

TMZ broke the story on Tuesday. Turner and Spurlock made a deal in March of 2017 to produce a show for TNT titled “Who Rules the World?” The program was about unpacking “the most divisive and complicated issues facing women today, from the policing of their bodies and judgments to their family planning choices.”

While an already odd choice to have a man helm a feminist TV show, Turner claimed in their lawsuit that Spurlock’s sexual misconduct admission in December killed the project.

In December, Spurlock wrote a post linked to his Twitter that stated a woman he slept with in college may have believed he had raped her.

“As I sit around watching hero after hero, man after man, fall at the realization of their past indiscretions, I don’t sit by and wonder ‘who will be next?’ I wonder, ‘when will they come for me?’” Spurlock wrote. “When I was in college, a girl who I hooked up with on a one night stand accused me of rape. Not outright. There were no charges or investigations, but she wrote about the instance in a short story writing class and called me by name. A female friend who was in the class told me about it afterwards.”

Spurlock also admitted that he may have offended an assistant almost eight years ago with inappropriate sexual remarks. He added that he was also unfaithful to every partner he had in the past 30 years.

The post caused outrage against Spurlock, and Turner said that his admission killed their TV show.

Turner additionally said that Spurlock is in charge of the production accounts and he refuses to reveal what happened to the show’s money. The group is suing for damages as well as costs of abandoning the show.

Turner is also suing to make Spurlock fess up to what happened to all the dough.
