Florida Teacher Removed from School for Participating in White Nationalist Podcast

Summary: A Florida school district removed one of their middle school teachers from the classroom after she participated in a white nationalist podcast.

A Florida school district quickly removed one of their teachers from their classroom upon learning that she held a secret white nationalist podcast, according to NBC News. The school fears that she may have expressed her ideology to her students.

The middle school social studies teacher is still employed by Crystal River Middle School in Crystal River but she is not teaching her class. The Citrus County School District was alerted by HuffPost to Dayanna Volitich, 25, of this activity. She was connected to a podcast titled “Unapologetic.” The school district’s human resources department was notified and a review was started.

In a statement from the school: “The teacher has been removed from the classroom and the investigation is ongoing.”

Volitich’s attorney stated that she does not deny holding the podcast. She held the podcast under her Russian name Tiana Dalichov but she claims the podcast was a “political satire and exaggeration, mainly to the end of attracting listeners and followers, and generating conversation about the content discussed between myself and my guests.”

She adamantly proclaims that her white nationalist views are not true and she has never discussed her political beliefs with her students. She said, “The views ‘Tiana Dalichov’ espouses do not pervade my professional career. As an adult, my decisions are my own, and my family has nothing whatsoever to do with my social media accounts or my podcast. From them, I humbly ask for forgiveness, as it was never my intention to cause them grief while engaging in a hobby on my personal time.”

Volitich ran the podcast and a Twitter account that have since been taken down. The HuffPost reported that one tweet stated, “It isn’t supremacist or hateful to prefer your own people over others.” Another tweet with a photo of a workbook was captioned, “I literally feel brain cells dying as I read this (expletive).”

A recent podcast featured an interview with prominent white nationalist Lana Lokteff, host of Red Ice TV. In the podcast, the teacher says she lied to her principal about her political views, even stating, “And she believed me.” Volitich and Lokteff discussed topics like teaching white nationalist ideology to kids, the need for private schools that teach white nationalist views, and the restraints of school administrations.

They even talked about how some races are better than others on the podcast. Volitich said, “This is science though. So many other researchers have already looked into this. That’s just the way it is. There are races that have higher IQs than others.”

Volitich teaches at a school that is roughly 90 percent white. The Ohio State University graduate in art became certified to teach in Florida in July 2016. Her Twitter account was suspended in October after tweeting controversial and hateful statements about Jews and Muslims.
