Actress Rose McGowan revealed that she is selling her house in order to fight “the monster.” While she did not say his name during a television panel, most in the audience concluded she was talking about alleged rapist Harvey Weinstein.

On Tuesday, McGowan spoke to TV critics about her upcoming documentary series, “Citizen Rose,” and the global struggle of fighting sexual assault and economic inequality.

“I’m really just trying to stop international rapists and child molesters,” McGowan said.

McGowan was allegedly raped by Harvey Weinstein in 1997, and she was paid $100,000 after the incident. Because of the settlement, the attack was not made public until October of 2017, when the New York Times published an expose on the producer’s decades of predatory behavior.

Since the article, McGowan and other alleged victims have been vocal about fighting sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, and gender pay inequality. Male and female victims have participated in the campaign #MeToo where they shared their stories of harassment by powerful men.

However, despite the climate, victims still face retaliation. McGowan said that she had to sell her home for money to pay for legal expenses, and one of Roy Moore’s accusers had her home burned down after she shared that the aspiring Alabama senator had tried to date her when she was a teenager and he was in his 30s. Brett Ratner also sued one of his rape accusers for libel, and she is currently in a legal battle with the wealthy Rush Hour director.

McGowan was one of dozens of women who accused Weinstein of sexual impropriety. The co-founder of Weinstein Films was once a titan of Hollywood but he has since been fired from his company and ostracized in the industry. He is also facing possible criminal charges as police departments in multiple cities are investigating rape cases.

McGowan said that she may have to sell her house in order to cover “legal bills fighting off the monster,” but Gulf News said there is no record of a lawsuit filed by her or against her regarding Harvey Weinstein.

For years, McGowan has been privately recording her life, and the production company Bunim-Murray has taken those videos and made a documentary series out of it. McGowan said that she wants to “to be like Gertrude Stein, to have a conversation with the world instead of just in my living room.”

McGowan’s new series “Citizen Rose” will debut on E! on January 30th. The network has come under fire recently for not paying reporter Catt Sadler the same salary as a male counterpart.

An executive at the E! Network said that Sadler and her male colleague had different jobs and were thus paid differently, although the two were often seen together on screen doing the same thing.
