Woman Hides Dead Husband’s Body Behind Wall

Summary: An older Florida woman shot her husband and then wrapped his body up in a tarp and put it behind a wall she had built with drywall and brick.

This is the stuff you only see in the movies until now. A Florida woman killed her husband and then hid his body inside a wall that she had drywall placed over. Deputies said a smell was emitting from the home, “consistent with an odor of decay.” The couple lived in a quiet neighborhood in Shalimar, located in the Florida panhandle region.

The Okaloosa sheriff’s office said, “Investigators obtained a search warrant and found a fabricated brick wall inside a closet under a stairway [that] was apparent that the brick wall was built to conceal the decaying body. After removing the bricks and drywall, a large dark plastic type of tarp was observed, shaped in the consistency of an adult body. The material had been thoroughly duct-taped.”

Okaloosa deputies said 72-year-old Alfred Wozniak was shot in the left temple. His wife, 65-year-old Barbara Wozniak, was charged with murder on Friday. She has also been charged with destroying/tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony.

The investigators allege that Barbara duct-taped her husband’s wrists, ankles, and midsection before covering his body with a tarp. She claims he tried to choke her on November 10 so she shot him in self-defense. She had told her two adult children what happened, who then called the police on Wednesday. When the police arrived at the home, the son told them what had happened and where to find the body. The daughter was sitting on the couch with her mother. The son and daughter gave the same story to the police during individual questioning.

The bullet trajectory contradicts her version of what happened, leading to the murder charge.

A woman who lives a few doors down from the Wozniaks told NW Daily News that she was “shocked” that a crime had taken place in the home. She confirmed that she had spoken with Barbara and Alfred several times, noting that Barbara enjoyed talking about plants. She added, “They seemed like normal people. Does anyone ever expect something like this to happen? It could happen anywhere, but it’s weird that it happened here.”

Police found evidence that collaborated with the story from the woman and her children. The case seemed pretty straightforward but the examination of the evidence lead to more serious charges. The investigation is still ongoing.

Do you think the woman got the idea to hide her husband’s body in the wall from a movie? Do you think the woman could have moved her husband’s body on her own without any help or will further examination of the evidence uncover an accomplice? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
