A select group of people in Colorado were asked deeply personal questions about sexual assault on Monday, and the process was heightened by the presence of none other than Taylor Swift.
Fox News reported that Swift flew to Denver to look on during the jury selection process in her sexual assault case against a local radio host.
In 2015, KYGO radio DJ David Mueller sued the singer for causing him to be wrongfully terminated. He said that she had mistakenly believed he had groped her at a concert meet-and-greet in 2013, and that one of his bosses was probably the real offender.
Swift claimed that she knew Mueller was the pervert, and in response to his lawsuit, she filed a countersuit, claiming sexual assault and wanting a trial. She said that during the grope, Mueller had lifted up her skirt.
“Right as the moment came for us to pose for the photo, he took his hand and put it up my dress and grabbed onto my ass cheek, and no matter how much I scooted over, it was still there,” Swift said during a deposition. “It was completely intentional, I’ve never been so sure of anything in my life.”
On Monday, Swift sat in court and watched as potential jurors were asked about their personal experiences with groping and inappropriate touching. In addition to the interview, potential jurors were asked to fill out a 15-page questionnaire.
Mueller was also in attendance at jury selection, and Fox said that the two avoided eye contact in court. The fired DJ has denied Swift’s claim of groping, and he said that her photographic evidence of the assault actually proves his point that he had not grabbed her butt like she had claimed.
The photo, which was obtained by TMZ, shows Mueller standing next to Swift at a meet-and-greet in Colorado, and Mueller’s hand is low, although not clearly grabbing her behind like the singer has claimed.
In Mueller’s wrongful termination lawsuit, he is seeking $3 million in damages from Swift. He said that he was fired as a country music station DJ after Swift incorrectly said that he had grabbed her. Swift said that the photo above proved that he was the one, and jury candidates were questioned on whether or not they had seen the viral picture.
Mueller and Swift were not required to attend Monday’s jury selection, but they and their legal teams arrived anyway. During the process, potential jurors were asked whether they were fans of either Mueller, 55, or Swift, 27. One potential was dismissed when he said that Swift was “petty” and “vindictive.”
Court spokesman Jeff Colwell told Fox News that eight people will be selected for the case, out of a pool of 60. The trial is expected to last for two weeks.
Swift is represented by attorney Douglas Baldridge, and Mueller is represented by attorney Gabriel McFarland.
