Gloria Allred Sued by Former Client Kyle Hunter

Summary: A former CBS anchor who had hired Gloria Allred said she underperformed on his case in order to land a TV deal.

Gloria Allred is a famed celebrity attorney who has taken on a string of feminist cases, which includes representing alleged victims of Bill Cosby and Donald Trump. While she has built a brand on being a champion for women, one former male client is crying foul.

In 2010, weatherman Kyle Hunter hired Allred to represent him in a discrimination lawsuit against CBS and its affiliates. He said that the stations where he worked, KCBS and KCAL, passed him over for promotions in favor of attraction young women, and he said Allred was supposed to compile colleague testimonies for his stormy case.

However, Allred allegedly underperformed in order to secure her own TV deal, Hunter said; and now he’s suing her.

Variety reported that Hunter lost his discrimination lawsuit and was ordered to pay $800,000. He said the amount bankrupted him and the settlement ruined his career. He alleged that Allred was too concerned with her own celebrity to give the weatherman proper representation.

On Tuesday, Hunter filed a lawsuit against Allred, saying that she had accepted CBS’s settlement without his permission. He said that she failed to disprove CBS’ claim that he lacked the “talent, skill, or on-air presence” to make it in Los Angeles but that she could have won the case if she had talked to his co-workers for statements.

Hunter added that Allred breached ethical obligations when she negotiated a deal with CBS to create a TV show based on her life.

“Allred has spent her career more focused on winning press conferences than winning cases,” Hunter’s lawsuit stated.

His lawsuit included other personal insults such as “Allred needs to spend less time in front of a TV camera, and more time in an ethics library” and he said she had a “penchant for public fame.”

Allred stated that she represented Hunter “vigorously” and with “devotion” and “integrity.” She said that Hunter had tried for almost a year to get her firm to pay his settlement, even though they were not obligated to.

“Mr. Hunter has been threatening to sue our law firm for approximately one year in an attempt to get our law firm to pay him money which he is not entitled to,” Allred said to The Daily Mail. “He has no valid claim against our law firm or its partners and we will pay him nothing for his worthless claims. We will vigorously defend ourselves and we believe that we will prevail.”
