Summary: After an undisclosed settlement, the Kim Kardashian: Hollywood lawsuit was dismissed this week.

The copyright infringement case against Kris Jenner was dismissed this week. Following an undisclosed settlement, Just Games Interactive dropped their $10 million lawsuit in which they accused the momager of stealing copyrighted elements in order to create the hit social app game Kim Kardashian: Hollywood.

In November of 2015, Just Games Interactive (doing business as Kung Fu Factory) sued Jenner for copyright infringement and breach of implied contract. The company said that the Kardashian matriarch and business manager Jenner had contacted Kung Fu Factory in 2011 to create a game, and they had submitted a detailed proposal about what the game would be like and how sisters Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe Kardashian would be drawn.

Just Games, who is represented by attorney Gerald Fox, said that after Jenner received the pitch they were strung along for months before they were finally told that the project was dead. However, in June of 2014, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood was released by Glu Mobile.

In the game, players sought to move up the social ladder from a regular person to a Kardashian-like superstar. To do this, they had to go to hip parties and wear nice clothes. In-game items that could help reach these goals such as a cute outfit or an energy drink could be purchased for real money, and these in-app purchases made the game a huge financial hit, spurning spin-offs for each individual sister, including Kim Kardashian’s half-sisters Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner.

Although free to download, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood reportedly made $200 million dollars through microtransactions and Just Games was furious that they had been paid nothing for their work. The game’s actual maker, Glu Mobile, said that they worked on the project independently and did not use elements from Just Games’ pitch.

“Glu views this complaint as completely frivolous. We were never contacted by, or even heard of, the plaintiff before they filed this complaint. Glu independently created Kim Kardashian: Hollywood and we will defend ourselves vigorously in this matter,” Glu told Gamespot in 2015.

When the lawsuit was first filed, Jenner defended herself by saying that they had commissioned Just Games to do work inspired by her own property called Stardom: Hollywood. She said that Just Games was bitter that they had lost the bid, and she had denied any type of breach of contract or copyright theft.

While this lawsuit appears to be over, the wealthy and uber-famous Kardashian family is no stranger to lawsuits. The deceased patriarch, Robert Kardashian, was a member of O.J. Simpson’s Dream Team legal defense in his murder trial, and the sisters have been plaintiffs and defendants in numerous suits ranging from defamation to breach of contract.
