JD Journal’s Top Chicago Bankruptcy Boutique Law Firms

Summary: This year, JD Journal has named three law firms as the Best Bankruptcy Boutiques in Chicago.

Note: These are BCG Attorney Search’s favorite bankruptcy boutiques in Chicago.

When choosing a bankruptcy attorney, clients look for someone with experience and expertise over a business generalist. While many Big Law firms have bankruptcy attorneys on staff, there are boutique law firms around the country who specialize in this area and attract clients with their clear branding. In Chicago, JD Journal has identified three leading experts in the field, and the following is our list of the Best Bankruptcy Boutique Law Firms in the city, ranked by size.

1. Goldberg Kohn

Goldberg Kohn is a commercial boutique located in Chicago that is one of the nation’s best known bankruptcy and restructuring firms. With 81 attorneys, the firm is large enough to handle complex cases but also small enough to give clients personalized attention. The firm represents some the United States’ largest banks, financial institutions, and hedge funds as well as all other types of parties in upper and middle-market situations.

“At Goldberg Kohn, we have a big investment in each other and have built a firm based on the values of mutual trust, support and respect, both for our clients and each other. We are focused on collaborating as a team to deliver our clients the best possible results,” the company’s website states. “Unlike most other firms, our culture and compensation system de-emphasizes competition among attorneys for client billing credit, which enables us to focus our ambitions on serving client needs and direct our competitive energies towards our clients’ competitors, not our clients.”

2. Shaw Fishman Glantz & Towbin

Shaw Fishman Glantz & Towbin is one of the top bankruptcy law firms in the country. Founded in 1988, the firm has 25 attorneys in offices in Chicago; Wilmington, Delaware; and Northbrook, Illinois.

“Our lawyers have the professional leadership background and practical trial skills to handle Chapter 7, Chapter 11, Chapter 13 and Chapter 15 bankruptcy and reorganization cases that involve billions of dollars in assets, representing large corporations and financial institutions as well as smaller closely-held businesses throughout the country,” Shaw Fishman’s website states. “We understand the goals and expectations of creditors, debtors and lenders can facilitate successful resolutions while minimizing administrative expense.”

3. Goldstein & McClintock
Goldstein & McClintock is a multi-city firm comprised of 16 attorneys with experience at some of the biggest law firms in the nation. They handle all aspects of corporate restructuring, and they represent companies, banks, government entities and other clients in transactional and litigation matters. According to their website, they handle national and international cases, and they stated that they offer clients a better deal than larger firms.

“Although our partners provide the same level of service that they provided for decades at large national and international law firms, at G&M they can now do so at substantially more reasonable and predictable cost,” their website states. “Not only are hourly rates lower, we strive to maximize the return on our clients’ legal spend though proper staffing and effective planning – often at least as important as rates. And in appropriate circumstances, G&M has implemented a variety of alternative fee arrangements to help clients minimize uncertainty and manage cost.”
