LawCrossing’s 2016 Salary Survey of the Top Law Firms

Summary: View the results of LawCrossing’s salary survey of top law firms to learn more about their salaries and other details.

The year 2016 has been a year of many changes in the legal industry. As a way of reflecting on the past year, LawCrossing conducts a research of attorneys at over 90 law firms. The purpose of the survey is to find out where law firms compare on policies and benefits such as salaries and bonuses.

The research that LawCrossing conducts asks attorneys about other features of their work environment such as associate life, demands of the law firm, benefits received, and vacation time. From the data, LawCrossing puts together lists where you can see salary information starting with first-year associates up to eighth-year associates.

By looking at the data, it is possible to see how some law firms adjust salaries based on location. Top cities like New York, Washington D.C. and often the California cities of San Francisco and Los Angeles receive top salary rates compared to other locations like Philadelphia and Houston that are on a lower pay scale. This is to accommodate the cost of living in each city as well as the demand in the markets. New York is the largest market with the most competition and demand.

The survey also includes summer associate salaries for a few law firms that provided that information. This information can be very valuable for law students looking to the future. If you are an attorney at a smaller law firm, you can use this information to determine where your salary fits into the legal industry.
