President Obama May Teach Law

Summary: How will President Barack Obama spend his time now that his presidency is over?

With the election madness finally over, our country will soon see President Elect Donald Trump take office from President Barack Obama. After serving for eight years, many are wondering how our first black president will spend his free time. While we can assume he will hang out with his family, it has also been reported that he will teach law.

In a 2014 interview, Obama, now 55, hinted that he would like to return to teaching constitutional law, a job he did before becoming leader of the free world. People speculated that he would head to his alma mater, Columbia University, and the president of Columbia hinted that was a possibility.

However, it is unclear when that will happen as it is reported that Obama and his family plan to stay in Washington DC after his term.

A recent article by Popsugar stated that the Obamas have already secured a lease on a fabulous $5.3 million Washington home owned by former Clinton Press Secretary Joe Lockart and his wife Giovanna Gray. Barack and Michelle’s youngest child, Sasha, is still in school and has a few years left; and they decided to let her finish there instead of moving.

Although it is rumored Obama will teach, he actually doesn’t have to work for the rest of his life. According to USA Today, all former presidents are given an annual salary of $205,700 for life, health benefits, and 24/7 secret service protection. This generous package was a part of the 1958 Former Presidents Act which was passed in order to allow presidents to “maintain their dignity” and not have to get real jobs like the rest of us.

According to USA Today, former presidents either take it easy or give back to the community. For instance, Gerald Ford golfs and George W. Bush paints. On the other hand, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter run community organizations, something Obama also did before his presidency.
