Man Deported 10 Times Accused of Raping Child

Summary: A Mexican man accused of raping a child while on a Greyhound bus was in the country illegally and had been deported ten times within the past six years.

A Mexican man has been deported from the country 10 times but seems to have no trouble finding his way back into the country and into trouble. Tomas Martinez-Maldonado, 41, is now accused of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl while on a Greyhound bus.

Martinez-Maldonado has been deported 10 times in the last six years with a federal felony conviction for illegal re-entry into the country in 2013. He can now add a rape charge to his name.

The incident occurred somewhere along Interstate 70 in Kansas last month. Geary County Sheriff Tony Wolf said, “A Greyhound bus had made a stop in Kansas City and there was an alleged rape that occurred on the bus, however they had no idea where this rape took place.” It is believed that Martinez-Maldonado boarded the bus when it stopped in Kansas City and then the incident occurred sometime after. The victim reported the rape three days after the incident.

He was arrested by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation in Missouri and given to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement until charges were filed. The criminal complaint rape charge was filed September 30. Martinez-Maldonado is being held on $100,000 bond. The public defender’s office has been appointed to represent him.
