Vinson and Elkins Solidifies Richmond Location

Summary: Richmond, Virginia will be the home now to a new Vinson & Elkins team with the law firm securing a permanent office.

Vinson & Elkins snatched up a team of lawyers several months ago and now has found a better home for those attorneys to work in. The international law firm has settled on a new Riverfront Plaza location in Richmond, Virginia.

Vinson & Elkins was taking up space in a Southside office while they looked for a more permanent place. The firm will now have 7,700 square feet on the 15th floor of the west tower to stretch their arms and legs. The previous occupants were Ewing & Bemiss, an investment banking firm that was absorbed by financial giant KPMG last year.

Daniel LeBey and Chris Mangin left Hunton & Williams to start Vinson & Elkins’ presence in Richmond. LeBey said they had plenty of options between openings in Riverfront, Bank of America center, James Center, and the SunTrust Center. He explained, “We decided we wanted to be in the main downtown business district. There’s a lot of vacant office space down here.”

The new Vinson & Elkins team in Richmond launched in the spring. Since then, LeBey and Mangin have recruited several more of their Hunton & Williams colleagues to join them. The Richmond team has grown to six with a seventh planned for December. Six of the seven are from Hunton, including two first-year associates that were Hunton’s summer associates. A senior associate from Troutman Sanders makes up the last member. The team focuses on representing real estate investment trusts, private equity clients, and investment banks.

One small renovation will be done to the office to make it ready for the law firm. LeBey said, “This particular space was exactly what we needed in terms of size and the configuration was already set up for what a law firm needs.”
