Jim Carrey Allegedly Infected Ex-Girlfriend Cathriona White with STD

Summary: Cathriona White’s estranged husband claims Jim Carrey gave White an STD before dumping her, resulting in her suicide.

The legal battle Jim Carrey faces against his ex-girlfriend’s estranged husband is getting nastier. According to the New York Daily News, the wrongful death lawsuit filed by Cathriona White’s husband against Carrey has been amended to include an allegation that Carrey gave her an STD.

Carrey, 54, dated White, 30, before she committed suicide last September. She was married during their relationship.

Her estranged husband, Mark Burton, alleged that Carrey had supplied White with the drugs that she later used to kill herself. Burton filed the complaint in Los Angeles on Monday. On Thursday, he amended the lawsuit to state Carrey gave White a sexually transmitted disease.

In the amended complaint, Burton said Carrey infected White and then lied to her when she confronted him about it. Burton said Carrey then dumped her.

Carrey’s lawyer, Marty Singer, said that Burton’s lawsuit was a “shakedown.” He added that Burton only married White so that she could legally stay in the United States instead of returning to her native Ireland. Singer said that they did not live together or even reside in the same state. He said Burton was trying to profit off of her death.

On Monday when the lawsuit was first filed, Singer defended Carrey, stating that White stole his prescription drugs. Burton’s lawyer Mark Avenatti said that facts and evidence will support Burton’s claims that Carrey supplied White.

In the original lawsuit, Burton said Carrey had tried to “cover up” his involvement with White’s death. Burton said that White had attempted suicide in the past, and that she should never have been given drugs like Ambien from Carrey. Burton said that after White had killed herself, Carrey had sent her a “bogus text” pretending that White must have taken his stash.

Burton is seeking White’s funeral expenses and punitive damages.

Carrey stated that he would fight this case openly.

“It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man’s lawyer and make this go away, but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honor against the evil in this world,” Carrey said in a statement.
