Uber Driver Attacked with Kitchen Knife

Summary: An Uber driver was bit by a customer and then attacked with a kitchen knife in Florida before even leaving the parking lot.

Uber drivers really do have a tough time doing their job. Just like passengers are concerned about not knowing whether the Uber driver is a good guy, drivers have to be concerned about what kind of nut job they are letting into their car. One Florida Uber driver learned this the hard way.

Maya Madry, 22, called for an Uber car to pick her up from her St. Petersburg residence on June 24. Upon entering the vehicle Madry “got into a verbal dispute” with Uber driver Mark Rolston. Uber drivers are not required to give people rides so Rolston asked Madry to get out.

Madry would not get out nicely. Rolston alleges that Madry “grabbed and scratched” his arm and then sunk her teeth into it causing “lacerations” that required medical treatment. She then used a large kitchen knife she was carrying to smash the driver’s side window and flatten a tire. The sheriff deputy that arrived at the scene said, “The defendant also attempted to flatten the victim’s other 3 tires with the kitchen knife but was unsuccessful.”

Arrest records indicate that Madry had been taken into custody in May for burglary and free on her own recognizance for that felony case. The judge this time placed on $5,650 bond, which she posted Sunday night. Madry was charged with aggravated assault, criminal mischief, and simply battery. The aggravated assault charge is a felony while the other two charges are misdemeanors.
