Daughter of Late Actor Paul Walker Receives Settlement

Summary: The estate of the late Roger Rodas, the driver of the car that crashed, killing actor Paul Walker, will provide a $10.2 million settlement to his daughter Meadow.

Three years after the deadly car accident that killed actor Paul Walker, his daughter has been given $10.1 million. The settlement reached for Meadow found the driver of the Porsche Carrera GT, Walker’s friend Roger Rodas, “partly to blame” for the accident. The money will come from Rodas’ estate.

The settlement was reached in 2014 but has just now been finalized since it was filed under the name “Meadow W” since she was a juvenile at the time. The specifics of the settlement show that Meadow will receive $7.2 million and her attorney Jeff Milam will receive the rest.

The court did note that Rodas was “not directing the car through any particularly unsafe maneuvers when it went out of control.” The car was traveling at least 90 mph when it crashed into several trees and a concrete pole before catching on fire.

Meadow and Rodas’ widow have both filed wrongful death suits against Porsche despite the investigations findings by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department and California Highway Patrol that the cause of the crash was speed. The lawsuits contend various design flaws or mechanical failings were the cause of the crash.

Rodas’ lawsuit was thrown out earlier and Meadow’s suit was thrown out by a judge earlier this week. Porsche filed a response to the lawsuit last year saying the car was misused and improperly maintained so Walker was responsible for his own death.
