Making a Murderer’s hunk just got his own TV show! Entertainment Weekly announced that Dean Strang, the defense attorney that shot to fame thanks to the Netflix series, signed a deal with Covert Media to lead his own legal show called Dean Strang: Road to Justice.
Season one will focus on Strang exploring big legal cases while pointing out flaws in America’s criminal justice system. It is slated to have eight episodes.
“Dean Strang has become a leading voice in the fight for justice,” Saul Goldberg of Covert Media said in a statement. “We are thrilled to be working with Dean on this landmark series that will shine a light on many other extraordinary cases where the criminal justice system has failed.”
Wiconsin-based Strang shot to stardom because of intense fan adoration after the Netflix series premiered. On social media, admirers likened him to Atticus Fitch or Sandy Cohen from Fox’s The O.C. In essence, they felt he was a sensitive dad-type fighting for justice, and stars like Emma Roberts couldn’t help but express their love for him.
Before Road to Justice airs, Strang and his fellow Steven Avery defense attorney Jerry Buting will embark on a 26 city speaking tour. JD Journal reported that Buting also landed a HarperCollins’ book deal in March.
Netflix’s true crime documentary Making a Murderer examined the arrest and trial of Steven Avery. In 1985, he was convicted of sexual assault, and in 2003, he was exonerated based on DNA evidence. While pursuing a civil case against the county for his imprisonment, he was arrested and convicted of first-degree murder.
Avery is currently still in prison for the murder of Teresa Holbach, and defense attorneys Kathleen Zellner and Tricia Bushnell have re-opened his case and are working to exonerate him.
