For an attorney to make it to an old age at a major law firm, they must be very good at what they do and have been willing to put in the work. Many young attorneys focus on the immediate requirements such as what law school they attend and the grades they receive but there is a lot more in store if they want to be a successful partner that is forced to retire because they are considered too old.

Law school and grades will only take an attorney through the next few years after graduation. After those few years, the work they do will become more important. At attorney that does not continue generating and maintaining their own business will never make it to the point of being a partner at a major law firm.

Being forced to retire should not be looked down upon by anyone in the legal industry. It simply demonstrates their level of commitment and desire to be an attorney, pushing them to want to keep working, which are lessons that everyone should be taking note of.
