Summary: Becoming eco-friendly is a goal for many businesses and even law firms. One 200-strong law firm is making it their mission to help their clients achieve their green goals.
Clients drive the legal market so when a law firm in Connecticut saw that many of their clients desired to be eco-friendly, they responded. Law firm Robinson & Cole has formed a new team to address any legal issues that may come with their goal to go green.
The name of the team is the “Sustainability Group.” It is comprised of 16 lawyers at the firm from several practice areas. Around half of the team members are in the Connecticut office while the others were selected from offices in Florida, Massachusetts, New York, and Rhode Island. They all have experience working together in sustainability issues such as environment, energy, intellectual property, taxes, finance, mergers and acquisitions, construction, and real estate matters.

One member of the team is Joey Lee Miranda. She said for her clients, “Sustainability is about taking actions to mitigate the impact on the natural environment for future generations.” Their clients are taking the steps now to prevent depleting natural resources for the future. They wish to do this by reducing air emissions like greenhouse gases, reducing energy consumption, and reducing water usage.

Managing partner John Lynch Jr. said, “Green projects are at the top of people’s minds. The team will be prepared to help clients with a comprehensive approach to sustainable designs and practices such as recycling, water conservation, renewable and alternative energy, green construction practices, and financing green initiatives.
Other team members include John Casey, Kenneth Baldwin, Alexander Judd, Robert Melvin, Michael Maglio, David Panico, and Martin Onorato. Their practice areas include land use, environmental law, finance, real estate and development, energy, intellectual property, public finance, construction, and business transactions. Miranda explained that other attorneys will be brought on as needed.
