UNM Ranked as Best School for Public Service

Summary: The latest issue of preLaw magazine awarded the University of New Mexico School of Law as the best school in the country for education in the public prosecutor/defender specialty.

The University of New Mexico School of Law doesn’t get much recognition, but they are getting the honor of being the best school to attend for learning to be a public prosecutor/defender. In the latest issue of preLaw magazine, UNM was placed on top of the list for “Best Schools for Public Service.”

Enrollment Decreases and Increases Reported at the University of New Mexico School of Law

The list is determined by scoring the curriculum, employment rate and affordability. The school received a 3.85. The next two schools on the list were Florida State University and the University of Cincinnati with scores of 3.75. Other schools that made the list were the University of Notre Dame Law School, the University of Denver and American University.

The magazine preLaw gathers data from the American Bar Association and the U.S. News and World Report rankings to help determine their list of best schools for public defender/prosecutor education. Factors such as classes offered in the specialty, percentage of graduates that land jobs in public interest and the salary levels.

University of New Mexico Law School Reveals Higher Employment Rates

“The innovative curriculum at the UNM Law School makes our graduates competitive for criminal law positions around the country,” Heather Harrigan, the Assistant Dean for Student and Career Services, said in a statement. Many graduates also opt to stay in the area to practice law.

UNM has been receiving more recognition in the past few months for the quality of education students can receive at the school. The National Jurist ranked them sixth in the country for “best value.”
