As we reported earlier this month, Kathleen Zellner is a TV savvy defense attorney, who has an impressive track record getting falsely convicted people out of prison. She and Tricia Bushnell, the legal director of the Midwest Innocence Project, signed on to help exonerate Steven Avery, the lead subject of “Making a Murderer.” And now Zellner is using her media savvy on Twitter to help the case.
Mic reports that Zellner, who has a large Twitter following of 46,000 to date, has been vocal on the social media platform, giving updates on her case work. She alludes to evidence of Avery being framed and then at one point flat out says he was.

To recap, Steven Avery was released from prison after nearly two decades for a sexual assault he didn’t commit. After his release, he was in the midst of filing a lawsuit against local authorities, but before he could collect any money, he was arrested for the murder of a photographer named Teresa Halbach. The circumstances surrounding his investigation and trial seemed suspect, and the documentary “Making a Murderer” examines those circumstances.
The Netflix documentary became so popular that fans revitalized interest in the case. Now it seems that Zellner, whose brand is overturning false convictions, is using the public to help with Avery’s defense. But will it work? Only time will tell.
