Former U.S. Attorney in D.C. Joins Dechert

A former U.S. Attorney has joined ranks with Dechert LLP . Vincent Cohen Jr. spent six months as an acting U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia. He will now be a partner with the prominent law firm. Cohen also played a key role in the conviction of three members of the D.C. City Council while serving as the No. 2 in the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Cohen is from Washington D.C. and was once a walk-on for the Syracuse basketball team. He has since built a reputation as an aggressive, demanding attorney who isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty. Cohen has said, “Getting justice for your client, whether it be for the United States or an individual company, is very rewarding.”

Dechert Announces $15,000 Raises for First-Year Associate Attorneys

During his time with the U.S. Attorney office, there has been plenty of controversy over the prosecution of many black politicians. Members of the black community in D.C. have complained that the office targeted black politicians during the investigations that led to the convictions of three council members and the chief of staff. Cohen countered their complaints with this statement, “We prosecute conduct. We don’t prosecute color.”

When controversy over the investigation into former D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray grew, Cohen left the office. Soon after, his successor announced that the investigation into Gray was done. The office had believed that Gray had knowledge of a crooked campaign fund, and the investigation may have impacted Gray’s loss to current Mayor Muriel Bowser.
