Florida Burglar Meets His End in the Stomach of a Huge Alligator

Summary: A Florida man accused of burglarizing houses met a poetic end when he was eaten by an alligator.

When Matthew Riggins, 22, told his girlfriend that he planned to burglarize several homes in Florida, he definitely didn’t anticipate what would happen to him next.

Riggins was reported missing on November 13. Ten days later, his body was found mauled by an 11-foot alligator in a pond in East Central Florida. A member of the Brevard County Sheriff’s office opined that Riggins “probably went into the lake to hide from the officers and the dog, and came across that gator. To hide somewhere to try and get away, and then meeting up with an animal like that, no, I’ve never had that happen before.”

The gator, however, didn’t flee from the scene of his crime. The Sheriff’s dive team ran into the huge animal while searching for remains of Higgins’ body. The county medical examiner confirmed the cause of death when he found parts of Riggins’ body in the alligator’s stomach.

Sounds like a clear case of karma catching up with Matthew Riggins. But the gator didn’t fare too much better – he was euthanized by an employee of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
