Former University of South Carolina Law School Student Arrested

Summary: An extra security presence at University of South Carolina School of Law is now in place due to a visit from a former law school student with a concealed weapon.

The University of South Carolina School of Law had a little incident that luckily ended peacefully. Former student, Craig Stanley, first appeared before the school asking to see the associate dean. He was turned away because she was unavailable. Staff reported the incident to police because it appeared that he had a hammer in his pocket.

When police arrived, Stanley had already left the building. The next day, he reappeared near the Dean’s office. Staff members quickly notified police that he was back. Dean Rob Wilcox met Stanley just outside the Dean’s Office. Wilcox stated, “He was calm and did not at any time display a weapon when talking with me or threaten the general population of the law school. Police responded to our call quickly and talked with the former student. They then discovered the concealed knife during their interview of him.”

Stanley was arrested outside the Dean’s Office with a concealed weapon. He was charged with a breach of peace and ordered to wear a GPS tracking device while under house arrest. His bond had been set at $2,200.

Wilcox ended up hiring a daytime security guard as a precaution and informed the law school students of the two incidents in a letter.
