Indonesia to Punish Pedophiles with Chemical Castration

Summary: Indonesia will soon punish pedophiles with chemical castration.

Indonesia will soon become the latest in a chain of countries punishing pedophilia with chemical castration. Their president, Joko Widodo, is expected to issue a presidential decree complementing a measure the cabinet established Tuesday that would allow pedophiles to be punished with the injection of female hormones which will make sexual desire vanish, as Attorney General H.M. Prasetyo explained.

“We are very concerned about child molestation abuse cases. This phenomenon has reached extraordinary levels,” said Prasetyo. “It has been agreed upon that there will be additional punishment in order to make people think a thousand times before doing this.”

Though historically harsher punishments have not deterred crimes, but only made them more desperate, nevertheless, the need for some action became palpable after such high-profile cases as the raping and killing of a 9-year-old school girl in Jakarta earlier this month, and the rape of a 6-year-old by a group of janitors at the U.S. embassy backed Jakarta Intercultural School.

With the menace seeming to mount, an effect mass media can have in swaying public opinion, it seemed to them that drastic measures were required to put a seal over the high pressure situation.

Indonesia will follow Poland, Russia, Estonia, and a few states from the U.S. in punishing criminals with chemical castration.
