Summary: In what appears to be an innocent mistake at Drexel University by a law professor, students received an email with a porn link.
Drexel University law professor Lisa McElroy used to be famous at her school for appearing on Who Wants to be a Millionaire, but now she is known for something a little less pleasant. McElroy was attempting to send her students a link to help them write legal briefs, but inadvertently sent them the wrong link, or so it seems.
The legal students received a link that directed them to a Pornhub video featuring anal beads on March 31st of this year. Administrators immediately took action, placing McElroy on leave. Many are calling the response to the incident an over-reaction to a simple mistake.
McElroy teaches legal writing and pedagogy at the University. A few of the students were unhappy about the unfortunate mistake and reported her to the senior associate dean of students, Kevin Oates, prompting an investigation.
The statement sent to students apologizing for the incident reads:
“Dear Students:
As you may be aware, some students erroneously received an email this morning directing them to a TWEN post that included some inappropriate material. We take this matter seriously and apologize for any upset it may have caused. If you have concerns about this, please feel free to speak to me, Professor Coleman, Dean Dennis, or Dean Diller.
McElroy has since been placed on leave pending investigation, which is apparently “required by Section 9 of Drexel’s Sexual Harassment and Misconduct Policy.”
McElroy is a Harvard Law School graduate and children’s book author. It is comforting to know that Drexel takes sexual harassment and misconduct reports seriously, no matter how innocent the incident may appear.
