Katina Powell, the self-described “Escort Queen,” has finally realized she’s in trouble. In her tell-all book, Breaking Cardinal Rules, Powell recounts wild parties with the Louisville basketball team between 2010 and 2014. She claims she was paid to have sex with new recruits at the parties, and that her daughters “helped” her. The problem? Her daughters were 15, 17, and 19 at the time.
If her allegations prove true, Powell may face child endangerment charges. Earlier this week, several news outlets announced she had hired–perhaps fittingly–the trash can lawyer.
Larry Wilder rose to fame in 2009 when this photo of him was posted:
The photo showed the City Council attorney passed out in his neighbor’s trash can, Oscar-the-Grouch style, after a particularly hard night of partying.
On that fateful morning, 80-year-old Conrad Embry woke up and found trash strewn about his lawn on Elk Pointe Boulevard. Embry called the police, who arrived to the scene and snapped the photo. The authorities did not administer a sobriety test; however, one officer on the scene claims Wilder was still drunk. It is unclear how the photo was leaked.
Successful Actors and Attorneys Are Very Alike
Jeffersonville Police Chief Tim Deeringer says Wilder was cooperative and able to walk back to his home next door. The attorney’s son and daughter, both adults, took care of him from there and no arrest was made.
The court of public opinion was not as kind. Wilder faced criticism and scrutiny from the incident, and ultimately resigned from his position with the Jeffersonville, Indiana City Council, where he had only lost one case in the previous 17 months.
According to Wilder, “I’ve stood up and accepted when I’ve done great things. And I’ve stood up and said when I’ve done stupid things because men of character do those things. . .”
After leaving the public sector, Wilder started his own law firm. The litigator has represented a variety of high-profile clients, including former University of Louisville athletes, politicians, and a sheriff.
Wilder says, “I have a very successful law practice, and it’s continued to be very successful in spite of what occurred in 2009 . . . [P]eople understand there’s a value to being truthful and honest about things that happen, accepting the good with the bad, going forward and working hard and being the damned best you can be and better than everybody else.”
