University of Chicago Welcomes Thomas Miles as New Dean

Summary: Thomas Miles will succeed Michael Schill as the dean of the University of Chicago Law School.

According to Chicago Business, the University of Chicago has selected Thomas Miles, who specializes in judicial behavior and criminal justice, as its newest dean. Miles will replace Michael Schill, who has served as the president of the University of Oregon since July 1.

Florida A&M University Law School is hunting for a new dean.

Miles attended the University of Chicago, earning his doctorate in economics before he attended law school at Harvard. According to UChicago News, Miles is the Clifton R. Musser Professor of Law and Economics and the Walter Mander Research Scholar.

Colorado Law School hopes to find a new dean soon.

He paired up with Adam Cox at the New York University School of Law and examined statistics to demonstrate how the race of judges impacts rulings in voting rights cases. Additionally, the pair studied whether crime is reduced by immigration enforcement measures.

Two deans have been appointed at Case Western Reserve University.

This is Miles’ first position as a law school dean, although he has served as the chair of two faculty committees.
