DLA Piper Positioned to Sweep NZ Law Awards

Summary: The New Zealand Law Awards announced this year’s finalists, nominating DLA Piper in four big categories.

Every year New Zealand awards law firms for excelling in several categories of legal work done between April and March. DLA Piper is a finalist in four important categories this year, including Large Law Firm of the Year, Managing Partner of the Year, M&A Deal of the Year, and Young Private Practice Lawyer of the year.

DLA Piper is the first global business law firm to come to New Zealand. DLA’s hard work, growing international client base, and support of developing talent is helping the firm grow.

The Large Law Firm of the Year award goes to the firm that has produced the most outstanding client service and legal work for that year, while the awards for Young Private Practice Lawyer of the Year and Managing Partner of the Year go to individuals that have done exceptional work.

The managing partner of DLA Piper, Martin Wiseman, is also the Chairman of the firm. He has been working in corporate and commercial law for many years. Senior Associate Pavanie Edirisuriya also works on the corporate team at DLA Piper. His work has played a big part in the firm’s overseas investment practice and multi-jurisdictional mergers and acquisitions this year.

The final award, M&A Deal of the Year, goes to the firm that has had a large role in the interests of New Zealand. DLA Piper has worked with Harvard University’s investment team, the Harvard Management Company, Inc., which handles endowments and pension funds for the university. The firm recently helped Harvard Management sell its interests in the New Zealand Kaingaroa Forest.
