Kim Davis Allows Gay Marriage Licenses to Be Issued

Summary: Kim Davis has made it so her name is not affiliated with the marriage licenses to gay couples while her and her lawyers seek intervention from other authorities.

Although Kim Davis, the Rowan County Clerk that was put into jail for standing up for her beliefs, will allow marriage licenses for gay couples to be issued from her office, she will not allow her name or authority to be on the licenses.

The lawyers for Kim Davis will still be seeking a better resolution for her dilemma. They plan to file a new lawsuit against Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear, blaming him for not providing an accommodation for her problem.

Lawyer with the Liberty Counsel, Harry Mihet, told the press that Davis is fine with allowing her deputy clerks to issue the licenses to gay couples and does not want to break the rules set by the court. However, Mihet said Davis will not issue the licenses herself.

When she returned to work on Monday, she altered the licenses so that her name, title and authority would not be in the licenses. This causes some concern about the validity of the licenses when they lack her name and authority.

Davis’ lawyers will also continue working on previous litigation filed by her such as a petition to the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to intervene with the district judge’s order forcing Davis and her office to issue the gay marriage licenses.
