U.S. Air Force Seeks to Expand Area 51

Summary: The U.S. Air Force wants the land around the secretive Area 51 property in Nevada, willing to obtain the land in whatever way they have to from the current landowners.

When the government wants your land, there isn’t much you can do. The land owners of a property near the U.S. Air Force’s Area 51 in Nevada are being threatened with seizure if they do not agree to a settlement.

The Air Force has offered the family $5.2 million in a last and best offer. If the owners, the Sheahan family, do not take the offer, the government will condemn the property and seize it.

The family is the descendants of a couple that had a mine that mysteriously blew-up a few years after the Air Force moved into the area. They ran out of money to seek compensation from the government. The family wants to keep their 400 acres of land and plans to reject the offer because they believe it plus their mining claims are worth more.

A recent incident from the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that the family recently visited their property since the government only allows them to a couple times a month when they were held at gunpoint. The Air Force of course denies this and blames the family for interfering with testing done in the area.

The Air Force will stop at nothing in order to prove that the family is a nuisance and cannot keep their land.
