In a press release from Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart P.C., the announcement came that David Sawyer was joining their Employee Benefits Practice as a shareholder. Ogletree Deakins is one of the largest labor and employment law firms that represent management.
Sawyer is leaving the Miami office of Ford Harrison to join the Miami office of Ogletree Deakins. He will help represent employers in a wide range of matters that deal with employee benefit plans. He assists administrators over both defined contribution and benefit of qualified retirement plans, supplemental deferred compensation plans, welfare and health plans, equity-based compensation plans, executive compensation issues, and other related benefit plans.
He has worked extensively on cases under the Employee Retirement Income Security Acts, governmental audits and examinations, coverage-related analyses for fiduciary liability insurance policies, and Taft-Hartley plans that include the progress of funding improvements and rehabilitation plans, discussing investment contracts, and counseling trustees on their fiduciary responsibilities.
Sawyer earned his J.D. from George Washington University Law School.
He will be the sixth shareholder that has joined Ogletree Deakins in four months. They have added Adam Dougherty, S. Rae Gross, Any Tanick, Michael Westheimer, and Tim Wolfe to their offices throughout the country. They have also brought on four former congressmen to their ranks.
