Do any of you reading have kids? I don’t … but I know that if I have them in the future I want to make sure that MOVING is a huge part of our lives. Growing up I played a lot of sports, but I was HORRIBLE at all of them. I enjoyed some, but mostly because my friends were there, not because I liked the movement. I wish I had found something I really enjoyed when I was younger. I think it could have made a big difference for setting good habits early on.

It is so important for children to understand that getting outdoors and being on the move is not punishment – it’s FUN! It’s so important to teach kids at a young age to play sports that they enjoy. Not only is it healthy, but it’s also a great social activity as well.

How do you do this? By being a role model. Set the bar high and show your kids that you work hard to achieve new steps, but that you have fun too. Do family activities together! Make it such an integral part of their lives that not exercising would just seem weird!

Here are five great benefits for children who grow up in active families:

  1. You have lots of time playing with your family
  2. You spend plenty of time in the fresh air and outdoors
  3. You learn patience and discipline
  4. Better hand-eye coordination and posture
  5. You know how to fall and get back up
