Summary: To find the music I love for runs, here are the places I look.

I’m not a big “music person,” if you will. I don’t follow bands, I don’t know artists and songs and bands very well, and I’ve been to very few concerts. What I do know, however, is to find the music I like without too much effort.

When it comes to running I absolutely love to run with music. Yes, sometimes it’s nice to run without it (especially when it’s dark – safety first!), but for the most part it can either distract me or really pump me up and keep me going.

To find the music I love for runs, here are the places I look:

  1. Spotify: Spotify is a music streaming service that can either be free, or you can pay monthly for some premium services. I pay monthly and can make playlists of songs and listen to them on my iPhone (without wireless!). They also offer tons of playlists in their “browse” section, or you can follow people that you are Facebook friends with to see what they’re listening to.
  1. Songza: Songza is a free app that is very similar to Pandora. You get on and choose a playlist based on the type of music that you’re looking for, your mood, or what you’re doing. This is a great way to find new music that I never would have come across on my own.
  1. iTunes: This is my classic go-to when it comes to finding new music. Yes, it’s probably lame, but it works for me. I go on to iTunes and look at the top downloaded songs overall, or choose specific genres. Often I’ll listen to songs, not like them, and then after hearing them on the radio or out at bars I end up loving them. I think it’s a social thing.
