DLA Piper Expands Perth, Australia Office

Summary: The addition of Hardy Bowen’s three partners, nine lawyers, and five support staff to the Perth location helps DLA build their global abilities.

The Perth, Australia DLA Piper office has brought in the local firm Hardy Bowen. The local firm has 12 lawyers with expertise in environmental and energy law, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate.

The Hardy Bowen partners of Michael Bowen, Marc Wilshaw, and Scott Gibson will now be partners at DLA. Their nine lawyers and five support staff will bring the DLA office to 115 people. DLA states that the move will deepen their corporate capability and makes the office one of the largest firms in the world. Managing DLA partner for Australia, John Weber, remarks that the Hardy Bowen team will increase their ability to serve “local and regional corporate, mining, and resources clients as a global firm”.

Bowen has been a lawyer for 36 years in the area, building “deep roots in the west Australian business community”. Before founding Hardy Bowen in 2002, he was a partner at Robinson Cox and Clayton Utz.

Gibson is experienced in mergers, resources, commercial law, and acquisitions. He previously worked at Clayton Utz as a lawyer.

Wilshaw is also experienced in mergers and acquisitions, in addition to private equity transactions. He has worked for Lawrence Graham in London and Bennet & Co in Perth.

DLA has been expanding their services for the mining and energy industries worldwide. They added Canadian firm Davis LLP and Mexican firm Gallastegui y Lozano SC. Their Singapore office has added three attorneys that excel in resources from Gibson Dunn and Jones Day.
