Journey Drummer Arrested in Salem, Oregon

Summary: Deen Castronovo, the drummer for Journey, is being held in Marion County jail without bail on charges of assault, sexual abuse, and rape.

Journey drummer, Deen Castronovo, is set to appear in court on rape, sexual abuse, and assault charges. Salem, Oregon police responded to a domestic disturbance arrest to his home and booked him into jail with three counts of fourth-degree assault, second-degree criminal mischief, menacing, coercion, and unlawful use of a weapon. He was released on bail but an investigation had begun.

The investigation led to an event that occurred six days before the initial call and arrest. That incident brought new charges of first-degree rape, second-degree sexual abuse, and fourth-degree assault. He was indicted by the Marion County grand jury on the serious charges and arrested that night. He is now held in jail without bail.

This is not his first run-in with the Salem police. He was arrested in 2012 for reckless endangerment, harassment, interfering with making a police report, and second-degree criminal mischief. He had been seen arguing with a woman in the street, prompting a neighbor to call police. He was required to perform 80 hours of community service and attend anger management classes as part of his plea deal.

Castronovo had recently delivered a $10,000 check to his alma matter, South Salem High School, two weeks after a fire in the school destroyed $400,000 of instruments and equipment in the music department.

Journey has announced that Omar Hakim will replace Castronovo for the upcoming tour dates.
