Littler Mendelson to Lay Off 113 in San Francisco

Summary: Littler Mendelson is laying off 113 staffers in San Francisco.

San Francisco’s Littler Mendelson P.C . is about to become a bit littler. They’ve filed a WARN Act notice that they will drop 113 of their staff in the San Francisco area. As of July 1, 2015, these layoffs will be permanent.

This accords with the firm’s plans on consolidating service functions and corporate departments in their new Global Services Center in Kansas City. The layoffs were offered the chance to move on to the new office, and lacking that, they are being let go.

“As part of this move,” their officials said, “all impacted employees were offered the opportunity to relocate; however, not all employees accepted this offer.”

It is necessary for businesses who are laying off a mass of employees to provide a WARN Act notice, and Mendelson is doing this.

Ranked as No. 15 in the Greater Bay Area, according to the Business Times’ most recent List of the Largest Law Firms, laying off 113 staffers, when 126 lawyers work in the area, is a sizeable chunk.

The plans to consolidate 275 administrative jobs in Kansas City affects their offices nationwide – they have dozens throughout the U.S. and in 10 countries worldwide, and they hope to staff their new office by pulling on sources from offices across the U.S.
