Foley Hoag Adds Martha Coakley to Their Team

Former Massachusetts governor candidate, Martha Coakley, is leaving the public sector to work for Foley Hoag.

The international law firm Foley Hoag has welcomed Martha Coakley to their Boston office. Coakley is a former attorney general and Democratic gubernatorial candidate. Her focus with Foley Hoag will be regulatory, defense work, and white collar crime.

Coakley ran for Massachusetts governor but lost by 41,000 votes. The loss was her second statewide election in five years. She is excited to start a new chapter and has no plans to return to the political spotlight.

Since her term at attorney general ended, she had been serving as a fellow with Harvard University’s Institute of Politics and as a chief analyst for WCVB-TV. Coakley says that both positions were steppingstones to help her figure out what she wanted to pursue next. Foley Hoag ended up being that next step.

She is excited to start work with this firm because she feels comfortable with the people she knows and respects there including Kevin Conroy, her former 2010 US Senate campaign manager and deputy attorney general. She also knows Martin Murphy at the firm when they worked at the district attorney’s office together and Michael Keating, a partner at the firm that has taught Williams College students alongside Coakley for years.

Coakley’s expertise in healthcare, energy, data privacy, security industries, and finance will help the firm.
