How the Top Firms Compare in Terms of Vacation and Leave Policies

Summary: We describe a chart detailing the vacation and leave time policies of top firms.

When choosing a new firm to call your own, either fresh out of law school, with that lofty JD degree in hand, or as a seasoned lawyer ready for a lateral move, you will want to consider more than bare salary. What about the culture, the spirit, the team dynamic of a given team? After all, Emerson said that it matters less how we spend our time than it does who we spend it with.

A clue to the social climate of a given firm can be quickly gleaned based on the vacation and leave policies firms have instated. A work place’s attitude toward non-work time goes a long way in establishing how they view you as an individual, and not just a worker.

At our lawcrossing site, we offer a chart of the top firms, and what their paternity and maternity leave time policy is. Not only that, but we’ve included information on whether a firm recognizes the same leeway for gay couples. In comparing firms on this policy, you can get an immediate impression of the tone and expectations a firm will have, and how much it will respect you not simply as a worker, but also as a human with cares and concerns outside of work.
