Over Three Thousand New Legal Jobs Reported in February

Summary: The Bureau of Labor Statistics has reported that 3,100 jobs were added to the legal industry in February of 2015.

According to Bloomberg, late last week, the most current job figures were released, demonstrating an increase of 3,100 positions in the legal sector. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, roughly 295,000 jobs were added in the United States in February, and the unemployment rate has decreased to 5.5 percent.

In July of 2013, 2,800 legal jobs were added to the industry.

According to the New York Times, however, wage gains are still slow, rising just 0.1 percent during the month of February for private-sector workers. In January, wages rose 0.5 percent. In an entire year, these wages only increased by 2 percent. The slow growth of wages hints that the economy still has some distance to go before it fully recovers.

The industry that saw the most growth was the service sector. The leisure and hospitality industry reported 66,000 new jobs in February.

What do you do when the legal job market slows down?

The number of persons employed in the legal industry now stands at 1,121,300, up from 1,118,200. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics website, the jobs included in this industry are lawyers, judges, law clerks, those in alternative dispute resolution, paralegals, and other such employees.

Over 200,000 jobs were added in October.

These numbers only reflect attorneys and other legal employees who were on payroll records, so certain positions, such as partners in law firms, may not be included in these figures.
