Nixon Peabody Merges with Ungaretti & Harris in Chicago

Summary: The law firm of Nixon Peabody has merged with the Chicago firm of Ungaretti & Harris.

It was announced on Monday that Nixon Peabody will merge with Ungaretti & Harris, according to Crain’s Chicago Business.

The merger will expand the firm’s reach in the city of Chicago by adding close to 90 lawyers.

For fiscal year 2013, Nixon Peabody reported $411 million in revenue. The firm is headquartered in Boston.

The merger takes effect on February 1 and the combined firm will keep the Nixon Peabody name.

Andrew I. Glincher, the Managing Partner & CEO for Nixon Peabody said the following in a press release from the firm:

“We are privileged to team up with a prestigious law firm like Ungaretti & Harris with a stellar reputation serving public and private clients. This combination is responsive to the needs of our clients with interests in Chicago and the Midwest as we grow and diversify our services there. At the same time, this merger offers Ungaretti & Harris clients more than 600 lawyers across Nixon Peabody’s international platform that includes offices in Hong Kong, Shanghai and London.”

Nixon Peabody opened its first Chicago office in 2007.

Ungaretti & Harris was founded in 1974. Alton Harris, a co-founder, is still with the firm. Michael Coffield, another co-founder, died in 2007.

Fahey will also join the management committee for Nixon Peabody. “With offices on the east and west coasts in locations strategically important to our clients, we now offer a more robust platform and critical mass to handle the most complex transactions and litigation.”
