Sheila Bair Joins DLA Piper from the FDIC

Summary: Sheila Bair, the former chairwoman of the FDIC, has joined the law firm of DLA Piper in Washington.

The former Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) chairwoman, Sheila Bair, has joined the law firm of DLA Piper, according to The Hill.

The announcement was made by the firm on Wednesday. Bair will work as a senior policy advisor in the firm’s Washington office.

“Sheila’s experience in the public and private sectors related to banking and financial regulation is unmatched,” said Jeffrey Hare, the chair of DLA Piper’s financial services regulatory practice. “Her insight into the pressing regulatory issues will be a tremendous asset to the firm.”

Bair worked at the FDIC before and after the recession, from 2006 to 2011. She still consults organizations regarding financial services matters.

Bair will focus on the international practice at DLA Piper, but will also take part in pro bono work.

She will also “provide strategic advice to the firm regarding developments in financial markets and their regulation.”

Thomas Boyd, the co-chair of the firm’s government affairs practice, said, “Sheila will be an outstanding resource for international clients, particularly those in the public sector, seeking her guidance on regulatory issues as well as deposit insurance and resolution regimes for troubled banks.”

Bair joins former regulators Ray LaHood and Bart Chilton at the firm. LaHood is the former Transportation Secretary and Chilton is the former CFTC Commissioner.
