Bracewell & Giuliani LLP Could Expand Into China

Summary: The law firm of Bracewell & Giuliani could be preparing for expansion into China following the success it has experienced in London.

Rudy Giuliani returned to law after serving as the mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001 and how his firm might expand to China, according to Bloomberg.

Giuliani’s firm has found success after the London office has doubled in a little over one year because of the work it has performed in the energy sector.

“If you look into a crystal ball into the future, the demand for energy is just going to grow,” Giuliani said in an interview with Bloomberg in London. “The firm decides based on need.”

The London office of Bracewell & Giuliani LLP focuses on energy and has advised Apache Corp. and BP Plc with mergers and acquisitions. The firm also has OAO Rosneft, headquartered in Moscow, as a client.

In the interview, Giuliani spoke about tougher sanctions on Russia for its actions in Ukraine. He did not shy away from his opinions even though the state oil company for Russia is one of his clients.

“Sanctions should be massive,” said Giuliani. “The sanctions should have been stronger and more uniformly enforced.”

Giuliani said that the United States should have invested in infrastructure five years ago so it could export natural gas, which would lessen the need for supplies from Russia.

Giuliani is expecting a large volume of mergers and acquisition work because it is easier to consolidate when there is a drop in oil prices.
