The Internal Revenue Service has been sued by Microsoft in order to obtain more details about a contract between the IRS and a law firm it hired to investigate the finances of Microsoft, according to GeekWire.
The law firm of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart and Sullivan was hired by the Internal Revenue Service to investigate the internal transactions of Microsoft. The transactions at the center of the investigation include moving money from one subsidiary to another between the years of 2004 and 2009.

Microsoft would like to find out what the contract entails between the law firm and the IRS. According to the lawsuit, Quinn Emanuel is receiving payment of more than $2 million for the investigation. The suit also asks for more information about the agreement.
The IRS “unlawfully withheld” information, according to the lawsuit filed by Microsoft, which is a Freedom of Information Act request that asks for details about the contract. The IRS has not responded to the complaint yet.

In a statement sent to GeekWire, a spokesperson for Microsoft said the following:
“Government agencies, funded by citizens, have an obligation of transparency under the Freedom of Information Act. The IRS has failed to meet the deadline to respond to a valid FOIA request, and we’re simply asking a Court to ensure that the IRS meets its obligations.”
